A solid Sitka spruce top, solid African mahogany back and sides, and forward-shifted scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing create a balanced voice with clear articulation, strong low-end support and dynamic headroom. Additionally, the traditional dreadnought body delivers confident projection for both solo and ensemble playing, while the LR Baggs Element VTC pickup system carries that natural character into amplified settings. From home sessions to live performance, the D-40 Standard a provides a reliable, full-range acoustic-electric foundation rooted in classic design.

Solid Sitka Spruce and African Mahogany Construction

The D-40E Standard pairs a solid Sitka spruce top with solid African mahogany back and sides, a time-tested combination that balances projection, warmth and clarity. Sitka spruce provides strong attack, headroom and openness, allowing notes to speak clearly across a wide dynamic range. The mahogany body complements that response with a focused midrange and controlled low end, keeping the overall voice defined without becoming overly boomy. Together, these tonewoods create a versatile acoustic platform that responds equally well to strumming, fingerstyle playing and vocal accompaniment.

Forward-Shifted Adirondack Bracing Enhances Response

Forward-shifted scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing allows the top to respond more freely, improving sensitivity under a lighter touch while maintaining structural support during more aggressive playing. This design works in tandem with the dreadnought body shape to deliver strong projection and a broad, balanced tonal range. Whether played acoustically in a room or captured with a microphone, the guitar maintains clarity and separation across the frequency spectrum, making it a dependable choice for both live and recording environments.

Mahogany Neck With Rosewood Fingerboard

A mahogany neck carved to a comfortable C profile provides a familiar, supportive feel without unnecessary bulk, encouraging longer playing sessions. The Indian rosewood fingerboard adds a smooth playing surface with a slightly warmer attack, while a 12″ radius and 25.625″ scale length offer a balanced feel for chords, lead lines and dynamic articulation across the neck. With 20 frets and consistent response from lower to higher positions, the neck design supports a wide range of playing styles without getting in the way.

LR Baggs Element VTC Electronics for Natural Amplification

The onboard LR Baggs Element VTC system provides a straightforward way to bring the guitar?s acoustic voice into amplified environments. Discreetly mounted controls allow quick access to volume and tone adjustments, while the pickup system is designed to preserve the instrument?s natural character rather than reshape it. This makes it well suited for players moving between acoustic performance, stage amplification and recording setups where consistency and clarity are essential.

Vintage Nitro Finish and Classic Guild Appointments

A vintage gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhances the D-40E?s visual depth while allowing the wood to remain responsive. Traditional details?including white body binding, a tortoiseshell pickguard, black-and-white rosette and Guild Peak headstock inlay?reinforce its classic aesthetic. Meanwhile, Guild Deluxe Vintage open-gear tuners with cream buttons provide stable tuning, while the included Guild Deluxe humidified wood case and accessories support long-term care. For players seeking a dependable, all-solid dreadnought with balanced tone, responsive feel and reliable electronics, the Guild D-40E Standard dreadnought is a complete, performance-ready instrument.
