Ready to take its place at the center of any serious Eurorack system, the Erica Synths Black Sequencer is a four-channel CV/gate/modulation sequencer built to turn complex modular control into an immediate, performance-ready experience. Designed as part of the Black Series, it combines robust hardware construction, oversized performance controls and deep sequencing functionality into a single 42HP module. With up to 64 steps per pattern, CV, gate and modulation recording, MIDI and analog clock integration, and an onboard quantizer, Black Sequencer is positioned as a master controller for modern modular rigs. It?s equally suited to live performance, generative experimentation and structured composition, offering classic step sequencing expanded with contemporary flexibility and control.
Four Tracks of CV, Gate and Modulation Control
The Black Sequencer features four fully independent channels, each providing dedicated CV, gate and modulation outputs for controlling voices, filters, envelopes and effects across a modular system. Each track supports per-step adjustment of note, glide, gate length, modulation depth, probability, repeats, ratcheting and microtiming, allowing sequences to evolve far beyond simple step patterns. The underlying design is derived from the Hexinverter and Erica Synths philosophy of keeping controls tuned to musical ?sweet spots,? making it fast to dial in usable results without sacrificing depth. Individual level control and dedicated outputs ensure seamless routing into external modules, processors or full modular voices.
Advanced Sequencing, Scales and Song Construction
Built around an X0X-style workflow, the Black Sequencer offers hands-on step programming with minimal menu diving, thanks to one-function-per-button access and a clear OLED display. Patterns can run up to 64 steps with independent track lengths, time divisions, multiplications and play directions?including forward, reverse, ping-pong and random?opening the door to polymetric and polyrhythmic sequencing. A built-in quantizer supports preset and user-defined scales, including microtonal tuning, while song mode allows patterns to be chained into full arrangements with repeat and stop control. Projects are stored across 16 banks of 16 patterns and backed up via SD card for reliable recall and transport between systems.
Performance Tools, Connectivity and Creative Control
Designed with live use in mind, the Black Sequencer includes extensive performance tools such as track mute and solo, pattern reload, shuffle per track, real-time transposition, roll effects and the powerful MAGIC function for controlled parameter randomization. Connectivity is equally comprehensive, with MIDI In/Out (DIN and USB), configurable clock and reset I/O, CV/gate inputs for external control and individual modulation routing options that support envelopes, LFOs, triggers and stepped or slided voltages.
