The Gibson Custom 1954 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue is a painstaking recreation of one of the most influential electric guitars ever made. For players seeking the distinctive tone and feel that made the original ’54 Goldtop a game-changer, this reissue captures every nuance in stunning detail. From its unique wraparound tailpiece to its premium tonewoods, the ’54 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue is a stunning homage to a pivotal moment in guitar history.

The Iconic Wraparound Tailpiece Returns

A hallmark of the 1954 Les Paul, the wraparound tailpiece contributed to the guitar’s unique tone and sustain. By connecting directly to the body’s studs, the tailpiece transfers string vibrations efficiently for enhanced resonance. Many legendary players like Freddie King and Jeff Beck were drawn to this distinctive voice. The ’54 Reissue faithfully reproduces this iconic design, allowing you to experience those classic tones for yourself.

Timeless Tonewoods and Construction

Just like the originals, the ’54 Reissue boasts a mahogany body with a carved maple top for ideal tonal balance. The glued-in mahogany neck features a comfortable ’50s-era neck profile that feels instantly broken-in. A 24.75″ scale length and 22-fret rosewood fingerboard provide the classic playing dimensions and articulation that made the Les Paul a favorite for lead work. Authentic details like cream binding and vintage-style tuners complete this historically accurate recreation.

Nitro Finish for Vintage Vibe and Voice

Applying a nitrocellulose lacquer finish in a sublime Goldtop gloss, the luthiers at Gibson Custom Shop have precisely replicated the look and feel of a 1954 original. Not only does this vintage process nail the guitar’s vintage aesthetic, but it also allows the tonewoods to “breathe” and age gracefully over time for an increasingly resonant voice. From the moment you open the case, the ’54 Reissue transports you back to rock’s formative years.

Tone Straight From the Golden Age

Two humbucking pickups meticulously replicating the original PAF design deliver the soulful, expressive tone that made the ’54 Les Paul an icon. These pickups sing with the warm, rounded character that defined the blues and early rock recordings of the era. From purring cleans to scorching leads, the reissue captures every nuance that made PAF-loaded Goldtops so revered. When you plug in, you’re instantly transported to those classic, genre-defining tones.
