PRS Private Stock 30th Anniversary Birds of a Feather Hollowbody I Electric Guitar – Frostbite Glow

Description

PRS devotees have long viewed the Private Stock program as the highest expression of the company?s guitar craftsmanship. Three decades into Private Stock, PRS marks the moment with a limited-run instrument that reflects both its history and its most refined design work to date. The PRS Private Stock 30th Anniversary Birds of a Feather Hollowbody I electric guitar is a fully realized expression of that philosophy, limited to just 96 pieces worldwide. Built on the Hollowbody I platform and featuring TCI pickups for the first time in this design, it delivers a balance of humbucker fullness and single-coil-style articulation, further shaped by integrated mini-toggle EQ switches. A carved flame maple top, swamp ash back and high-gloss nitro finish define the instrument?s acoustic response and visual presence, while the reverse Birds of a Feather inlay commemorates a decade of one of PRS?s most recognizable design elements.

Private Stock Craftsmanship and 30th Anniversary Appointments

Launched in 1996, the Private Stock program represents the highest level of PRS guitar building, where material selection, construction and visual design are executed without compromise. This 30th anniversary model captures that approach through a carefully curated combination of tonewoods and finishing techniques, alongside a production run limited to 96 instruments. Every detail?from the flame maple top to the swamp ash back and nitrocellulose lacquer finish?is chosen for both tonal contribution and visual depth. As an anniversary instrument, it also reflects the evolution of Private Stock itself, bringing together established design elements and newer refinements in a single, cohesive build.

TCI Pickups and Expanded Sonic Range

The heart of this Private Stock 30th anniversary model’s voice is a set of PRS TCI pickups, marking their first application in a Hollowbody platform. These pickups are tuned to deliver a wide tonal range, combining the warmth and output of traditional humbuckers with a level of clarity and articulation more commonly associated with single-coil designs. In practice, this allows the guitar to move between clean, open chord work and more saturated lead tones without losing definition. The result is a flexible tonal foundation that responds consistently across different playing styles and dynamic ranges.

Mini-Toggle EQ System for Precise Tone Control

Complementing the pickup design, dual mini-toggle EQ switches introduce high-pass filtering that reshapes the guitar?s low-end response. By selectively reducing low-frequency content, these switches allow players to access brighter, more focused tones while maintaining overall balance. This added layer of control makes it easier to refine the guitar?s position in a mix, whether dialing in articulate rhythm parts or emphasizing upper-register detail for lead playing. The system expands the usable tonal range without complicating the core control layout.

Hollowbody Construction and Resonant Response

The PRS Hollowbody I combines a carved flame maple top with a swamp ash back, producing a naturally resonant and open acoustic character. This construction enhances note bloom and sustain while maintaining clarity across the frequency spectrum. The high-gloss nitrocellulose finish allows the wood to resonate freely, preserving subtle dynamic nuances. Whether played clean or with gain, the hollowbody design contributes to a responsive feel that translates directly into the amplified signal, supporting both expressive lead work and detailed chord voicings.

Birds of a Feather Design and Limited-Edition Appeal

The instrument’s beautiful reverse Birds of a Feather inlay serves as both a visual focal point and a commemorative element, marking ten years of Private Stock head Paul Miles’ distinctive design. Executed with maple birds set against an ebony field, the pattern creates contrast and depth while maintaining clear fretboard readability. Paired with the striking Frostbite Glow finish and premium material selection throughout, the design reinforces the instrument?s identity as both a performance tool and a detailed example of Private Stock artistry. Limited to 96 pieces worldwide, this Private Stock 30th Anniversary Birds of a Feather Hollowbody I electric guitar stands as a refined expression of PRS design, craftsmanship and milestone achievement.
